Abrasion behaviour of Prettau ® zirconium

Compared with polished zirconium, the crown with built-in ceramics is 10000 times more abrasive, since the porous surface of layered ceramics works on the tooth as natural as the abrasive paper. It is possible to depict it on the following example: if we are rubbing hands for ourselves, abrasion takes place which can lead to chafes on the skin. If however we are rubbing the hand on the glass pane, the soft hand is sliding down the surface of the pane. In addition only a slight friction and warmth, but not an abrasion are produced. Similarly this happens, when sintered zirconium is contacting with the natural tooth. Zirconium after sinterisation is truly smooth and vitreous, so is sliding down without the friction, the same as the hand the glass pane on the natural tooth. Generalizing, it is possible to say: the harder and the smoother the material material the smaller material consumption caused by the friction, and hence also a reduced abrasion.
